Reason Three: Mens sana in corpore sano

In Latin, mens sana in corpore sano means "a sound mind in a sound body." Running and swimming relieve and reduce my stress level and make me a better student in the classroom. Before I started swimming, I had struggle during elementary school and considered only an average student. But by the time I finished my first season at Scarlet Aquatic Club, I was able to excel academically as a student.

Reason Two: Swimming

Without swimming, I would not have the stamina to run two or three miles. Through swimming, I became more mentally and physically fit for running. As a child, I overate and easily developed high cholesterol. I needed some kind of exercise to burn my fat, so I turned to swimming to help resolve this. It was not easy for me because miracles do not happen instantly for me. With a little patience, I lost all my baby fat in three years and maintained a normal cholesterol level. Thanks to swimming, I was able to run.

Reason One: Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump is the first reason why I run. He's my true inspiration.
Jenny Curran: Run, Forrest! Run!
Forrest Gump: Now you wouldn't believe me if I told you, but I could run like the wind blows. From that day on, if I was ever going somewhere, I was running!
Forrest Gump: That day, for no particular reason, I decided to go for a little run. So I ran to the end of the road. And when I got there, I thought maybe I'd run to the end of town. And when I got there, I thought maybe I'd just run across Greenbow County. And I figured, since I run this far, maybe I'd just run across the great state of Alabama. And that's what I did. I ran clear across Alabama. For no particular reason I just kept on going. I ran clear to the ocean. And when I got there, I figured, since I'd gone this far, I might as well turn around, just keep on going. When I got to another ocean, I figured, since I'd gone this far, I might as well just turn back, keep right on going.
Forrest Gump: [running] I had run for 3 years, 2 months, 14 days, and 16 hours.
[
he stops and turns around]
Young Man Running: Quiet, quiet! He's gonna say something!
Forrest Gump: [pause] I'm pretty tired... I think I'll go home now.

Reasons Why I Run

I might not be much of a runner, but I do run for different reasons. Over the next few days or weeks, I will be blogging about the reasons that keep me moving forward.
